Succesful Collection at Tesco, Lakeside

12th July 2016

Every year in early July and early December, Tesco stores in the UK invite Trussell Trust foodbanks to come and collect food for their local projects. Tesco support this with a nationwide advertising campaign and by promoting the collection in all participating stores.

Here in Thurrock the Tesco at Lakeside retail park have always been a big supporter of our foodbank and we have been collecting at this store for the past 3 years.

This year’s collection took place from Thursday 30th June to Saturday 2nd July and the result was a fantastic 1640.5kg of food donated by the generous people of Thurrock. Along with this we also received £100 in cash donations towards the running costs of the project.

Thurrock foodbank would like to express heartfelt thanks to the Manager and staff of Tesco, Lakeside for all they did to accommodate and support this collection. We would also like to thank the many volunteers who came out to hand out shopping lists and receive food donations, as well as those who helped to transport it, weigh it, sort it and get it ready to go into our food parcels for those in food crisis.

Finally we would like to thank the good people of Thurrock who gave a tin, a packet, a jar or a whole bag (and more) of shopping to Thurrock foodbank. You can only begin to imagine the difference your donation will make. Thank you for your generosity.

Look out for details of the next big collection from Tesco’s in December.
